In September 2010, LEEVAC opened another
Louisiana vessel repair facility located on nine acres in Lake Charles, Louisiana in the Port of Lake Charles LNG plant turning basin. This facility, known formally as LEEVAC Shipyards Lake Charles, LLC, allows us to better meet the vessel repair and conversion needs of our customers. Located 17 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, our Lake Charles yard has no restrictions coming from the Gulf, with all deepwater access including deepwater at the docks. The
ship repair facility features more than 11,000 feet of waterfront, plus the
"Mr Lee" a 3,500-ton floating drydock measuring 300 feet long and 64 feet between wing walls & the
"Mr Fred" a 1,500-ton floating drydock measuring 150 feet long and 65 feet between wing walls. Focused on topside repair and drydocking, our Lake Charles facility also provides two cranes with a capacity of 165 tons, full support equipment and available potable water. The vessel repair facility also features a yard that is 100% concrete and asphalt.

LEEVAC offers a full range of vessel repair and conversion services, including the latest in marine paint products and techniques, sandblasting, steel replacement, mechanical repairs and upgrades, electrical repairs and upgrades -- as well as warehousing services. In addition, we offer gas free services, which includes the cleaning of tanks on barges and tank vessels.
Along with well equipped facilities and a wide range of services, LEEVAC provides a team of highly skilled craftsmen dedicated to vessel repair and conversion. Some of our employees are third and fourth generation Louisiana shipbuilders, providing our customers with decades of hands-on experience and expertise. In addition, all of our vessel conversions, modifications and repairs are supported by our in-house engineering department. Our staff of engineers includes pipe designers, structural steel designers, electrical engineers, HVAC specialists and a naval architect. Our ship engineering & design department stays in close communication with our repair and conversion personnel in order to ensure the quality of our work as well as adherence to all codes, federal regulations and safety requirements.
LEEVAC has a great deal of experience in the repair and conversion of a wide variety of vessels and barges utilized throughout the maritime industry. Our experience in this area includes a number of highly specialized projects including converting supply boats to be used in the United States drug interdiction program, as well as modifying supply boats for military sealift command used to escort U.S. nuclear submarines.
